Hydrocele Treatment and Surgery

A hydrocele is a collection of fluid around a testicle that can cause swelling of the scrotum. Hydroceles are common in newborns and can also occur in older children and adults. Many hydroceles are painless, but persistent or significant swelling should be medically evaluated. Dr Shaunak Saha provides clinical assessment for patients with hydrocele and other causes of scrotal swelling. Evaluation may include physical examination and, when required, ultrasound to distinguish hydrocele from hernia, tumour or other conditions. If a hydrocele does not resolve or causes significant symptoms, surgical repair may be recommended. The appropriate treatment depends on the patient's age, symptoms, underlying cause and clinical findings.
